DJ Khaled may have been telling the truth when he said Nas’ album was done, but there’s still no sign of it. In the meantime, Esco serves up this new song called “Angel Dust,” which appears on the soundtrack to the second season of Netflix’s The Get Down (which he executive produced). Staying true to the show’s theme, Nas brings the drug-infested streets of ’70s New York to life over a sample of Gil Scott-Heron and Brian Jackson’s “Angel Dust.”
Later, the “Get Down” executive producer and narrator reveals why it’s best to stay away from drug dealing too. “The sidewalk was my brother’s office,” he raps. “We cut our losses, I had choices / I took a pen, became a voice for the voiceless / My people walking in a zombie state / Life is short, even mine’s at stake.”
